Presentation
Kasey
Koch from the USDA Renewable Energy Office spoke on the possibility of
Floyd Hill residents banding together to get a 25% grant of federal
funds up to $500,000 to form a business energy cooperative. Electricity
produced by wind, solar, or geothermal energy sources can be sold back
to Xcel or Intermountain Rural Electric Association (IREA). All coop
members would share in the dividends or savings. Association residents
are encouraged to contact Jim White if you are interested in
investigating an energy coop for Floyd Hill. A first step would be to
contact Bob Maylander at the Rocky Mountain Farmer’s Union to get advice
on the practicality of organizing an energy coop and to check a wind map
for our area at National Renewal Energy’s laboratories. For instance, a
100-kilowatt wind tower would cost approximately $200,000 and heat/cool
approximately 20 homes. |

Emergency Notification/Meeting Calling System
- Jim White
Each meeting reminder is practice for sending a real emergency message
to all Floyd Hill residents. Jeff Hume has been trained. Before our next
FHAPOA meeting, all officers will also be trained in sending an
emergency message. An 800 phone number is called which relays a recorded
message to an up-to-date designated set of emergency telephone numbers
of Floyd Hill residents. Our emergency system works only when phone
service is operational.
A pamphlet was passed out
to all in attendance about free Citizen Emergency Response Training
available to any Clear Creek County citizen willing to attend training
sessions on five Saturdays in March. Each participant will learn basic
preparedness and response skills needed to survive a major disaster.
Call Jane Thomas at 303-567-2741 to register.

Welcome Committee
- Jael Dale
Jael is proposing creating
an Activities Committee that will replace the current Welcome Committee.
Subcommittees of the Activities Committee will organize the annual
FHAPOA Garage Sale, summer BBQ/Picnic, Halloween or holiday parties.
The Activities Committee
will also create and maintain a service directory that will summarize
services Floyd Hill Residents have found reliable and helpful. This
directory can be viewed on the Association’s web site, along with
disclaimers that the Association does not endorse any of the goods or
services posted. Interesting things to do in the Floyd Hill area, as
well as restaurants will also be highlighted. The directory will be
updated quarterly and shared with new residents on our Hill. Wanda Norge
and Linda Berteau have agreed to help on this committee.
Residents are reminded to
check on elderly neighbors, or those who are homebound to make sure they
have needed food and medicines.
Mailboxes, propane tanks,
and electric meters should be cleared of snow at all times.
Old hearing aids, glasses,
or old cell phones can be given to Jael for donation to the Lions Club
or a battered women’s shelter.

on or about May 1st. Attendees expressing an interest include Linda and
Paul Berteau, Diane and Ken Quast, Mike Cheverria, and Pat Aiello. Linda
Berteau will check with the Clear Creek High School to see if any clubs
would be interested in helping with the litter pick-up in exchange for
community service credits. Residents are urged to put garbage in secured
